The ECT rating tells you how much way to box can hold. Its exact meaning is the edge crush test, which is what manufacturers put them through before selling them. The edge crush test is just as it sounds: a test that checks how much way it takes to press the edges of the box, which affects on how much weight the box can actually hold. So, depending on the weight of items the returning the but the boxes, you’re going to need to pay close attention to the amount that the ECT rating tells you.

32 ECT is about normal standard for your household items, so keep that in mind while you’re looking for your boxes. If you can find some that are lower and 32 ECT, then they will be good for some clothing or other light household items. If you’re trying to pack heavy appliances or books, you should probably look for boxes are above 32 ECT. Nothing is worse than trying to move into a new location and having your boxes break when you are carrying your items out of your old house or into your new.

If you go to a store and try to pick up boxes sometimes you can come in luck and they’ll give you high-quality boxes for free, but in most cases they will give you all of the not boxes for free. It is better to spend a little bit of money on boxes that will definitely hold your things while you’re moving instead of getting beat up boxes for free that capacity cave-in when you are trying to move, breaking all the things inside of the box. Overall cheap moving boxes are a better choice than simply getting free boxes from a store.
