On the contrary.

Usually when people refinance their mortgage, they do it in order to get a better deal, meaning that they save money and are financially wise.

Al he wants to do (probably) is to pay less for the same home. Why should that be wrong?

A while back it was one in every six homeowners had upsidedown mortgages which meant they owed more than the home was worth or could be sold for so it meant that if they sold the house then they would take a loss. So your dad probably is cash poor which means he's earning but his income doesn't pay for everything he owns. he probably sees the lower apr rates for homes how and thinks maybe he could refinance his home to pay less. He can do that if he's paid more than say 15 years or so on the house to get lower payments. When you purchase a home for the first 10 years or so you're paying only interest, and after that ten years you begin to pay a small part of the home loan along with the interest. So he could be cash poor, could be unemployed and stuck and doesn't want to lose the home. Yes, sounds like he, along with millions of Americans, are in financial distress.

It is a good sign. It means that his financial condition is good enough for him to be able to refinance.

Very doubtful that he is in finaicail distress.
If you have bad credit or are upside down on your mortgage, it would be very difficult to refinance.
If you want to save money on your mortgage, it would be a good investment to refinance.

If you are old enough to be a chemist (i.e. out of school working in the real world). You are old enough to start managing your finances and finances in general.

sounds like your mobile home is a good one. I own 2 mobile homes and manage 30 more. Just keep things fixed when needed, on mobile home's water damage is always the thing that will hurt you the most. enjoy your home, treat it well and it should last you a long long time.
